Welcome to Chicago Metro SUNA
We are one of the largest chapters of the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates. Chicago Metro has been honored with the Chapter of the Year 2003-2004 & 2008,Chapter with Exceptional Education Programs 2005, and Chapter with Best Communication 2006. Chicago Metro provides monthly urologic nursing educational meetings in the Chicagoland area. Chicago Metro also participates in community awareness for Urologic Health.
We are also proud of our members national contributions. Chicago Metro members include Jeff Albaugh, Past-President of SUNA, Mary Ann Wasner, past regional Director and current President of SUNA, Vic Senese, Past Regional Director and current Web-Editor of the National Website and Kathy Marchese & Katy Bortel as members of the SUNA Annual Conference Planning Committee.

The CHICAGO METRO CHAPTER wins back
chapter of the year! With both of Chicago's baseball teams losing in the playoffs, it was good to see our Chapter bring some honor back to the city.

 

US Medicare Coverage Policy for Intermittent Catheters

Effective April 1, 2008, the four regional Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Medicare Administrative Contractors (MAC) covering the US have revised their Local Coverage Determinations for Intermittent Catheters. The key change is that reimbursement coverage for intermittent catheters has increased from a baseline of four catheters per month to a usual maximum usage of 200 per month, per patient.

The following must be documented:

  1. PERMANENT CONDITION: Note stating that the condition for needing catheters is permanent or undetermined time period more than 90 days.
  2. DIAGNOSIS CODES: 788.20(Retention of Urine) or 788.30 (Urinary Incontinence, Unspecified)
  3. FREQUENCY: There must be info listing the number of times a Day/week/month the patient is cathing and must match what’s listed on Plan of care.
